Clef Gut Double Bass Strings

Saturday, March 1st, 2008 12:32 PM

The following is a re-published product review I posted to uptonbass.com. I’m not sure if it took or not, so I’m cross posting it here because I spent so much time on it.

Hypothesis 4: Decreases in human interface cognitive load are proportional to repetitive use.

Saturday, March 24th, 2007 10:02 AM

After reading John Gruber’s thoughts about Tantek Çelik’s Three Hypothesis of Human Interface Design yesterday, I felt compelled to contribute to the subject. For those of you mildly interested, but scared of large words, I recommend reading the Daring Fireball post. You’ll get the general idea.
At first I considered sending an email to [...]

I Were On The TV

Sunday, March 11th, 2007 9:12 AM

As being in part of Matt and George’s Pleasant Valley Boys, I had the privilege of joining them on Sacramento & Co., a local Sacramento morning show. It was my first time on a TV set. Not physically on top of an actual television device. I grew up in the generation of [...]

Pleasant Valley Extravaganza

Sunday, February 25th, 2007 3:23 PM

Yesterday’s Pleasant Valley extravaganza turned out to be pretty darn cool. We kicked off the day at KDVS for a little guest spot on Robyne Fawx’s “Saturday Morning Folk Show.” While we were there, we took the opportunity to set up a camera and film a few of the songs for YouTube posterity.

Pleasant Valley Boys At Ludy’s

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007 8:58 AM

I’ve been moonlighting with some Dixon bluegrassers, while the Bottom Dwellers continue their winter hibernation. One has to keep his fingers seasoned, you know.

The Pleasant Valley Boys will be pickin’ at Ludy’s Main Street Barbecue this Saturday (2/24/2007 @ 6 PM). Tell all your friends who like beer, barbecue and bluegrass to put their pleasant valley shoes on and prepare for a fat slice of authentic Americana pie.

We’ll also be performing on KDVS 90.3 FM on this same Saturday somewhere around 11 AM if you prefer to try before you barbecue.

Twenty years ago on this day, a new phase of my life began. My parents gave me a shinny, black electric bass guitar. The year was 1986. I was 13 years old.

Crap

Monday, August 21st, 2006 6:31 AM

This week we open for the Derailers at the Palms, then go to Humboldt to play three four hour sets, in as many nights. Last night, my Band-Aid® crapped out on me in the second song, and I ended up with this…

Yeah, that’s blood in there. Yeah, that’s an important finger. No, the [...]

Meisel MCT-7L, The Perfect Tuner!

Sunday, March 5th, 2006 10:01 PM

I’ve used Boss TU-12H tuners since I was in Jr. high school. They are very accurate, have a huge frequency range, a built in mic, and line-in and out to let you put it in your signal chain. Despite their light weight and seemingly flimsy plastic cases, they are surprisingly durable. I’m [...]

Rockabilly Slap Bass Videos

Sunday, February 12th, 2006 9:50 AM

This post is specifically for John E. who is on his way to becoming one of Sacramento’s premiere doghouse slappers. These quick little snippets helped me out a great deal when I was learning to slap.
Muscle memory is a huge part of slap bass, so it can be difficult to both explain, and understand [...]
